Commonly, from the moment the idea is generated to the product or service launch, work is done through different organization areas, from market research, conceptualization, requirement specification to the development team, also considering different visions of the objective.
In environments where SCRUM is used to create a winning product, stakeholders must have a shared vision of what the product should look like and what it should do. This vision is led by the Product Owner and is crucial to the success of a project.
The Product Owner must understand the market, the customer and the business to maximize the value of the work delivered and the investment return. He/she is the key player, as this role represents both internal and external stakeholders. The Product Owner profile must have a balance between business knowledge and technical knowledge.
In addition, the Product Owner is responsible for directing the development effort to create a product that generates the desired benefits.
The Product Owner main responsibilities include:
- Discover customer needs
- Seek solutions to customer needs
- Create product vision
- Prepare the product portfolio
- Plan the deployment, taking into account all stakeholders
- Manage the budget
- Prepare the product launch
- Collaborate with the Scrum Team
Likewise, the Product Owner plays a crucial role not only in launching new products, but also in managing their lifetime.
